I haven’t updated in awhile so here it goes. It’s been a pretty hectic two weeks filled with essays to write and being sick. I got pretty sick at the beginning of last week, the sickest I’ve been in years and actually went to the doctor (literally the first time since freshman year of college). I was diagnosed with a respiratory tract infection and thankfully I started using antibiotics as soon as I felt ill (yay for moms who insist on packing everything!) so that when I finally visited the doctor I was feeling a lot better. I got a doctors note since I had three essays due on Friday the 26th and that was not going to happen. Just as a quick note, to the Americans who don’t support universal healthcare, all I have to say is you don’t know what your missing. After I registered, I got an appointment, saw the doctor and even got a prescription for some dermatological issues I’ve been having for only 7 pounds. Now most health insurances don’t cover dermatology visits, but since it was a minor thing the general doctor diagnosed it and gave me a cheap prescription…I know it probably would’ve cost twice as much for the same prescription back in the US. Another reason I love the UK and Europe and I honestly don’t know how I’m going to adjust when I get back! As for the essays, I submitted one on the Friday and the other two I submitted yesterday, on Wednesday. Hopefully I won’t get to many deductions off (2% deduction for everyday late, not including weekends), especially since I’m convinced those were the worst essays I’ve ever written in my life.
Now for the fun stuff. We’re on Easter break for an ENTIRE MONTH meaning I’m going to be travelling. Our term ended last Friday and that’s when break started…ideally, they assume that we should be studying (or revising as they call it here) because when we get back for term 3 it’s all exams that count for 80% of most people’s grades. Since I’m only here for half the year, I only have to submit two essays for most of my classes (classes that are full-year) but one of my classes is a half-year class and I have an exam in that one. The exam is on June 1st so I don’t have to study until May :) This also means I’m going to be home probably on June 7th since that’s the cheapest ticket I’ve found so far. I was kind of bummed about staying that late for the sole reason that I thought I would have an internship by now but sadly I don’t. Hopefully something pops up but right now my options are working for the Barnard Admissions Office, which I will gladly do, but I also thought I might have an internship part-time…
As for the actual fun stuff, this Saturday I’m meeting up with the awesome Elizabeth Pino for a mini-Euro trip! Our first stop is Amsterdam and then we’ll continue on to Rome, Barcelona, and Madrid. I’m so excited! I’m not going to be bringing my laptop on this trip just to avoid the hassle, but I’ll try to keep this blog updated with my adventures as much as I can.
