Dueaa Goes To London
The Tower of London

On Friday, a huge group of Barnard girls ascended upon London for Spring Break, including Iffat, Dimilsa, and Angela who are staying with me for the week. On Saturday we decided to do some sightseeing but the tube is horrible on the weekend so that ruined our plans for a guided boat tour at 2pm. Instead, we went inside the Tower of London (there are actually 20 towers in the fortress). We hopped on a tour by a Yeoman Warder aka Beefeaters, who act as the guardians of the Tower. He gave us a nice history of all the beheadings that took place and gave us the deets on where the Royal family lived. After the tour, we went into the Jewel House and checked out the Crown Jewels of the UK. They were painfully gorgeous and I tried to sneak in a couple of pictures which I’ll post later. After the Jewel House, we went into the White Tower, which was under construction, but we got to see a bunch of the torture devices that were used back in the day. The Bloody Tower was next and this is the tower made famous by the smothering/stabbing deaths of the two boy princes. They had this cool interactive feature where they had pieces of evidence and had the tourists choose the murderer, either Richard III or Henry VII. At the bottom level, there were even more torture devices…I honestly don’t know how these people came up with so many evil methods of torture. The creepiest thing was that these methods, ie: they would fold someone up in three and compress their body in a metal cage, were meant to keep the person alive the entire time. They definitely had more mercy on those who were beheaded.

After the Tower, we headed to the Tower Bridge and walked across. We’ll probably be back again to actually go up the Tower and get a panoramic view of the city. Pictures will be up soon!
