Dueaa Goes To London
HEENA

is in LONDRES (aka London in French). It’s so surreal to see her in London, when I just saw her two weeks ago in Paris, and before that I saw her in New York. Honestly, technology is amazing and I don’t think I really appreciated the ease of getting from one place to another and seeing/communicating with people. I mean, it used to take two months by boat to get to Europe from the Americas. Pretty darn cool that it only takes seven hours now, and a few hours between each major European metropolis.

Anyway, I met up with Heena, Amy, and Heena’s friend Lisa in the British Museum. It was a beautiful museum with an extensive collection (the Rosetta Stone! Cleopatra’s mummy!) but after seeing the Louvre, everything seems so underwhelming. After the Egyptian section, we stumbled into this amazing Mexican exhibit called Revolution Mexico. It was made up of all these posters by left-wing groups preaching revolution and denouncing fascism in the 1930’s. I really wanted to steal all of them and put them in my room. Also, it was a lot of fun since I got to practice my Spanish comprehension…but thank goodness for the English explanations on the side. We walked through Greek and Roman art and wound up in the general European area where they had an entire section dedicated to CLOCKS. Yes, only in the UK. I guess stereotypes do have their factual basis somewhere.

We left the museum and met up with another Barnard gal, Abbey, and grabbed some Korean food at a place called Assa. I have to admit, I was terrified. Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a fan of Chinese food but Lisa assured me that this place was great. We walked in and I realized she was telling the truth when I saw that everyone who was eating there was Korean. I ordered the spicy chicken stir fry with rice, which was actually pretty tasty. So now I have Thai and Korean food under my belt and I guess that’s a good thing since my dislike of Chinese food no longer overshadows the other good stuff in East Asia.

It was a good day (drizzling, not pouring) and I got to explore a part of London that’s so close to me and yet I was too lazy to take advantage of. Here’s to more exploring throughout the rest of the week.
